You cannot fight whenever you want. Battles open on certain days and follow a capture-point format.

You bring mercenaries or your own zombie platoon, clear waves of enemies and take map districts one by one. Capture speed scales directly with how many units you bring, so more bodies means faster captures.

One gate matters up front: you must clear a protection threshold (armour and weapons) before a battle opens. That is why plenty of players try to jump in early and find they cannot.

How combat works

Four points cover it.

  • When you can fight: on certain days. Reviews describe it as “On certain days, you can enter into battles to reclaim parts of the Town”. The exact schedule is unannounced.
  • Who you bring: two sources of troops, mercenaries and your own zombie platoon. You can use both.
  • What the goal is: capture the district points on the map. Allies can be led to a zone to capture it, and more bodies captures faster.
  • What happens afterwards: the trailer describes the sequence as “Then, you take the district back. Block by block. Clear it, settle it, put it to work.” Clear, settle, then put it to work.

Districts you retake are where production expands. Combat and production are one system, not two.

The interface changes during battle

Demo players noticed that once a town battle starts, the usual day-cycle and energy bars disappear and a wave counter takes their place at the top of the screen.

That tells you battle is a phase outside the normal flow of time.

Whether time actually pauses or energy is limited is unclear. The player who documented it wrote “Doubt it” and did not confirm it, so treat that part as undecided.

Why you cannot fight at the start

Reviews recorded the restriction precisely: “the inability to start combat before reaching a certain level of protection, so you can’t even give it a shot”.

It is not a skill problem. You simply have not crossed the line yet.

The threshold value is unannounced, so do not copy any number you see circulating online.

What you can build for it

The official store description reads:

Build towers and fortifications, craft powerful armour and weapons, arm and train your not-so-smart troops, and slash your way to victory!

Four things are confirmed: towers and fortifications, armour, weapons, and training troops.

The developers have never published a weapon or armour list, or any stats. So this wiki does not publish a weapon tier list. Without verifiable data, a ranking would only mislead.

Preparation order

This order follows the confirmed mechanics and their dependencies.

  1. Clear the protection threshold first. Armour and weapons are the entry ticket. Without them you cannot start a battle at all.
  2. Build fortifications and towers. “Fortify the Town” appears in the official description, so defence is part of combat, not an afterthought.
  3. Train and equip the zombie platoon. The description says “arm and train your not-so-smart troops”. Troops need gear; you cannot just throw bodies at it.
  4. Top up with mercenaries if you are short on numbers. Capture speed scales with headcount, so you need enough units even if the count is small.
  5. On entry, lead allies to capturable zones rather than clearing the whole map first. Advancing capture is the objective.

This loop connects to production. Troop gear and supplies come from the same automation chain, covered in automation and zombies.

Known faults

Reviews recorded one combat issue: some zombies get stuck on scenery and stand there taking hits without attacking.

The exact wording was “they would also just stand there and get hit without attacking”.

Combat leans on headcount, so losing a few zombies visibly slows the advance.

What to do: bring a few spare units, watch the patch notes, or swap in mercenaries when your own units freeze.

Still unannounced

  • A full weapon and armour list with stats.
  • The exact battle schedule. Which days count as “certain days” is unstated.
  • The protection threshold value.
  • How time and energy behave once the wave counter appears.
