Graveyard Keeper Save Location on Windows (and Backups)
Saves live under AppData LocalLow, not in the game folder. Exact path, how to open a hidden folder, backup and restore steps, and the cloud-sync overwrite risk.
Saves are not in the game install folder. On Windows they live in the user data directory:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\Lazy Bear Games\Graveyard Keeper\
If you cannot see LocalLow (it is hidden), paste this into the File Explorer address bar and press Enter:
%appdata%/../LocalLow/Lazy Bear Games/Graveyard Keeper
What is in that folder
All save files and log files.
Because it sits outside the install folder, versions installed from different storefronts on the same machine read and write the same directory. That is exactly why the backup advice below exists.
Backup and restore
- Quit the game completely. Not minimised, the process ended.
- Open
%appdata%/../LocalLow/Lazy Bear Games/Graveyard Keeper. - Copy the whole folder somewhere else, for example into a dated archive. Copying the folder wholesale works; that is what the community does.
- To restore, turn Steam Cloud off first. This is the critical step.
- Overwrite the folder with your backup.
- Launch the game, confirm your progress loads, then turn cloud sync back on.
Why step 4 matters: a widely repeated community warning says the first cloud sync can replace your local saves with nothing. Disconnecting sync, verifying the local files, then re-enabling it avoids that entirely.
How to confirm a restored save actually works
- In game, check that the save slot’s date and location match what you expect.
- Open the most recently used production building and confirm its queue and stock are intact.
- Sleep once to trigger a write, then quit and reload to confirm nothing rolled back.
Cloud sync status
| Platform | Sync method | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Steam | Steam Cloud | Listed explicitly in the Steam feature list |
| Nintendo Switch | Save Data Cloud | Requires a Nintendo Switch Online membership |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Shared with the Switch version | Nintendo states the two versions are save-compatible |
| Across platforms | No official sync | Console and PC saves do not transfer |
What other platforms offer
There is no reliable source for the exact macOS or Linux paths.
The official Graveyard Keeper Wiki’s save page is empty, and neither the store pages nor Wikipedia list paths. The only material available is forum questions from players, and their answers disagree with each other. So this page does not guess.
Consoles and mobile do not expose a file system, so platform cloud saves are the only route. There is no directly accessible path.
Save editor risks
Community save editors do exist, and technically they can modify local saves.
Two things to know: the developers do not support save modification, and the save format changes between versions, so older editors may simply fail to read a newer save.
Take a clean backup before you touch anything.
Graveyard Keeper 2 saves
As of 15 September 2026, the developers have not published a save path for the sequel. The official site, the store pages and all seven official posts are silent on it.
The one related confirmed fact comes from Nintendo: the Switch and Switch 2 versions share save data.
Separately, the developers confirmed demo saves carry over to the full game. That is covered on the demo page.
